Local women put together bags of necessities for the homeless and those who are struggling
Eliza Eugene of LaPlace knows spare change can only go so far to help a person in need. Facial expressions tell a different story when Eugene hands out care packages filled with toiletries, socks and snacks. From surprise and gratitude, she sees the reactions and knows in her heart that each donation makes a difference.
Another successful Back to School Youth Rally for the 2018 School season
They may not be excited about summer ending, but hundreds of St. John the Baptist Parish school students (and their parents) were pretty excited about getting free school supplies and other goodies at Saturday’s Backpack Extravaganza sponsored by Eliza Eugene’s Blessed to Be a Blessing.

2017 Back to School Youth Rally
St. Charles Parish's largest back-to-school event, the 2017 Youth Rally, was held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Edward Dufresne Community Center in Luling. While United Way of St. Charles is a main sponsor of the event, the rally is also sponsored by St. Charles Parish Department of Community Services, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Blessed to be a Blessing, and Alpha Daughters of Zion.

Growing up with a single mother, Eliza Eugene remembers how hard Christmas could be for her family. “My mom would tell us, ‘There might not be much this year,’” Eugene said. “She had to work real hard. Somehow, something always came through. The community, the church, a neighbor, someone would step in and there would be a toy.”
